Planting 600 Millions Trees

Millions of Ethiopians from all over the nation turned out in the early morning today to smash their planting record by planting 600 million seedlings today. Prime Minister’s message is as follows: On this historic day, we have gathered in the city of Assosa for the one-day planting event, in a region known for its natural abundance, mineral wealth, and fertile lands. With the conclusion of today’s event, we will have planted around 40 billion seedlings since the launch of the Green Legacy program in 2019. Of the seedlings planted in the past year, 50% have been focused on food security, soil conservation, and combating land degradation. As we move forward, we must continue planting in areas like the Abay River Basin to support water conservation.

Dr. Abiy Ahmed Ali’s message was sent out as a reminder to everyone on his social media before “Forests are vital for the planet’s health and human well-being. They provide oxygen, store carbon, and regulate the climate, helping to mitigate climate change. Forests are also home to a vast array of biodiversity, offering habitat to millions of species. Let’s protect our existing forests and continue increasing our forest coverage by planting. Get ready for August 23rd!”

But still, there are questions asked:
For the past years, trees have been planted in Ethiopia every summer. This is a good thing. Is this tree planted and gone after the other one is taken care of? Is there a need to provide shade and water to prevent a dry winter? When I walk in China I see workers watering plants and underwater. In our country, is there a government organization that will take care of the planted tree? Or will they give mercy to God for the sake of spending money and power that is overpowered? How many trees planted in the past six years in your area?
